Applus+ promotes road safety in Uruguay

    The company, through its Automotive Division in Montevideo (Uruguay), has developed a workshop aimed at local councils and public bodies in the transport sector. The objective of this initiative is to promote road safety in Uruguay through statutory vehicle inspection and to share the benefit of its experience to help achieve this goal.

    Applus+ has organised, in partnership with the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA) and the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation, a workshop entitled “Statutory vehicle inspection and road safety in Uruguay: towards a brighter future”. The context for this initiative was the medium-term objective set by the country’s mayors and transport ministers to implement, nationally, the decree stipulating the mandatory inspection of private cars and light commercial vehicles. Applus+ has been operating in Uruguay since winning the tender to become the Ministry of Transport’s sole provider of statutory vehicle inspections for heavy goods and commercial vehicles.

    During the workshop, which took place at Montevideo’s Hilton Hotel, Applus+ offered the authorities its vision of the future of statutory vehicle inspection in Uruguay, highlighting the company’s experience at a global and, especially, a South American level. In addition to speakers representing Applus+ offices in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador, the conference also featured presentations on the company’s experience of providing statutory vehicle inspection services in other Latin American countries, as well as the impact these services have had in each market.

    There were also guest speakers from CITA, UNASEV (Uruguay’s national road safety unit), the Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation and the Buenos Aires Department for Transport and Road Safety, who between them covered a range of themes related to road safety, such as cargo and passenger transportation, child safety and technology.

    More than a hundred people attended the event, including transport ministers and members of the mayoral assembly.
