Applus+ Technologies, a subsidiary of the Applus+ Group specializing in the design and manufacture of emission testing equipment and vehicle inspection services in the United States, renews the close collaboration with the IEPA to manage this new program utilizing the Smog DADdy technology.
Smog DADdy is a next generation on-board diagnostics (OBD) device developed for performing emissions inspections on most gasoline models manufactured since 1996 and diesel-powered vehicles manufactured since 1998. This new technology has been developed to meet the stringent certification requirements of the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR).
The Applus+ Vehicle Emissions Testing Program affords numerous motorist conveniences, including expanded testing hours on Saturdays, a comprehensive 10-seat call center and a new newly created website that provides for online submission of forms and applications for waiver, exemption, extension and reciprocity transactions.
Applus+ recruited nine (9) independent inspection and repair businesses (I&Rs) to supplement the 12 centralized locations, creating a convenient network of testing stations to serve Illinois motorists. It also developed a new computer-based module, which complemented the hands-on portion, ultimately revitalizing the training program to ensure all inspectors had the most up-to-date information and tools.
“This was an exciting implementation, which further solidifies Applus+ as a leader in the vehicle inspection and emissions testing industry. We look forward to continuing our efforts to offer the latest technology to our customers”, said Applus+ US Country Manager - Automotive Division, Darrin Greene.
