BOISE, IDAHO, 13 February, 2015 – Applus+, one of the world's leading testing, inspection and certification companies was selected to manage the State of Idaho Vehicle Inspection Programme (VIP) in Canyon County and the city of Kuna (USA). The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) undertook a competitive procurement process to select the most qualified vendor to transition the programme with minimal impact on all stakeholders.
Applus+ worked with the DEQ, recruiting the majority of the stations already participating in the programme to ensure a seamless transition and no interruption in service for motorists. It has also added new stations to the testing network to better serve vehicle owners.
The Idaho VIP is the first inspection and maintenance (I/M) program in the country to integrate the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) data-acquisition device developed to meet the stringent certification requirements of the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) throughout its entire network. Applus+ has a significant opportunity to offer this advanced testing technology - dubbed the “Smog DADdy” - to both current and potential new customers in the global vehicle-inspection market.
“This program reinforces our focus in the North American market where our technology platforms are built so that emissions testing is accurate and reliable, yet quick and efficient, for the motorists and shop owners,” said Applus Automotive Executive Vice-president, Aitor Retes. “We are pleased to be working with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, and are committed to making the customer experience positive for everyone.”
